Traditional cellular networks (4G and LTE) are expensive, consume too much power, and are too intense for the needs of the billions of new, low-power devices expected to come online in the coming years.
Sigfox with its LPWA technology transmits data, 12-byte packets at a time, which is enough to transmit the location of a device or a sensor reading or sound an alarm. It’s not aimed at smartphones, but at the next wave of Internet-connected devices known as the Internet of Things, or IoT.
